Pakistan and Kuwait agree to enhance cooperation in various sectors

ISLAMABAD, May 30 (APP): Kuwait and Pakistan on Thursday agreed to strengthen mutual cooperation, promote bilateral relations and investments.

As stated in the press release, agreements and memorandums of understanding in the field of industrial cooperation and engineering were also signed during the meeting of the 5th Joint Ministerial Commission.

Pakistan also offered Kuwait investments in the fields of pharmaceuticals, engineering and automotive.

A high-level delegation of Pakistan, led by Minister for Investment, Privatization and Communication Abdul Aleem Khan, represented Pakistan at the Joint Ministerial Committee meeting.

Addressing the closing session of the JMC, Abdul Aleem Khan announced that he would appoint a Pakistani trade advisor to Kuwait.

He said that the ‘Visa on Arrival’ facility would soon be launched in Pakistan for the member countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

The minister said Kuwait could engage veterinary staff, doctors, nurses and other labor from Pakistan.

He expressed hope that Kuwait would also ease visa conditions for Pakistanis in the future.

The minister said, “Pakistan desires a long-term economic partnership with Kuwait under which special facilities can be provided under the banner of SIFC to enterprises.”

He said that new investment opportunities have emerged in Pakistan in the tourism, minerals, agriculture, food, textiles and energy sectors.

Aleem Khan said that the Pakistani delegation also held talks on joint ventures with the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce. He added that a consultative meeting was held with the well-known Kuwaiti animal breeding organization ‘Al Muashi’ during which Pakistan and Kuwait agreed to encourage the export of poultry and other dairy products.

Kuwait’s Minister of Trade and Industry, Omar Saud Al-Omar, described the course of the 5th Joint Ministerial Commission as satisfactory and assured the federal minister of all possible support from Kuwait.

Earlier, Abdul Aleem Khan and his delegation met Kuwait’s Minister of Electricity, Water and Energy, Dr. Mahmood AM Bashehri.

During the meeting, Aleem Khan said that both Kuwait and Pakistan are facing energy challenges and may form joint working groups under SIFC in this regard.
