This Apple Watch case can kill all those wannabe AI devices

Within two months, hopes for Rabbit R1 AND Humanitarian artificial intelligence the devices broke down and burned down. They unveiled radical new cases and promised to break our screen addiction, but when we finally got our hands on them, they were completely defeated. Some, however, aren’t ready to give up the idea of a gadget that offers app functionality without the charm of a big, bright screen. What if I told you that the answer is staring us in the face?

The premise of TinyPod is simple: it’s a thing for Apple Watch which allows you to navigate through the menu using a knob reminiscent of an old-school iPod. The worst part of the Apple Watch is using the Digital Crown to execute commands, and who doesn’t love the Click Wheel?

Simply put, it greatly increases the appeal of the Apple Watch as the only device you carry around with you. It’s not as interesting to look at as the Rabbit R1 or have the cool laser projector that the Humane pin offers, but the watch does what it promises and it works.

Unfortunately, it’s still an Apple Watch. Millions of people wear them and still don’t feel forced to part with their phones. But that could change next month.

Apple’s WWDC event is expected to be all about integrating the latest AI features into its devices. This was reported by Mark Gurman from Bloomberg on Sunday Apple meets with Google and OpenAI about a potential partnership to integrate one of its chatbots with iOS 18. Apple isn’t giving up on its own internal AI products, but it recognizes that these two companies are leading the way in the chatbot space.

This was reported on Thursday by The Information. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has officially signed a deal with Apple that’s potentially worth billions of dollars. It was a bit shocking. Google has been cooperating with Apple for a long time and paying the Cupertino giant billions of dollars a year be the default search engine in Safari. Moreover, Apple’s main rival, Microsoft, has a huge stake in OpenAI.

This all means we’ll likely see ChatGPT integration into Apple products soon, which could mean a much more powerful Apple Watch. Both Rabbit and Humane claimed to have their own solutions built into these products, but the reality is that ChatGPT was still the backbone of the AI. And then neither product worked.

The Apple Watch is capable of doing most of what these AI devices promise, and there’s no reason why it can’t do more in the future. Sure, you can call Uber using the Rabbit R1, while the ride-sharing company pulled its app from the Apple Watch in 2022. However, Rabbit’s location tracking is so unreliable that there is no reason to believe that the car you ordered will arrive anywhere near you. If Apple makes its Watch more useful (and really fixes Siri), we could see developers eager to create apps for it.

This doesn’t mean TinyPod will be the next big thing. We don’t know much about him except that he has a good idea and looks nice. The company’s website contains no information other than the slogan and “available this summer.” Irrelevant, others work for a similar idea. Cake is an Apple Watch case that looks very similar to a smaller version of the Rabbit R1, equipped with a spinning wheel. And of course, Apple could simply create its own new cases if it wants to encourage such behavior.

Just kidding, but something tells me that Apple would like to continue selling billions of iPhones, so making its Watch more versatile may take some time. I don’t think these AI devices will ever replace smartphones. I’m happy to put my phone in my bag or leave it in the car until absolutely necessary. TinyPod sounds great in my pocket.
