Regardless, Spotify will refund your money for Car Thing

The Spotify Car Thing saga came to a head earlier this month when Spotify told customers it would destroy all remaining devices, but now the company is reluctant to do the right thing and offer refunds for two-year-old devices.

As we first reported earlier this month, Spotify Car Thing will be killed in December 2024. Spotify has informed customers who continue to use the product that their devices will stop working on December 9 and instructed them to throw them away. There was no indication whether customers could get a refund for the barely two-year-old device, and no information on how to keep it working.

Now Spotify has decided to allow refunds.

Confirmed TechCrunchSpotify has “implemented a refund process” for Car Thing units. Users must provide proof of purchase for the device, but can then receive a refund for the amount paid. Customers must contact Spotify support to begin the process.

Some users are already reporting that they have been able to get a refund, while others claim that Spotify has refused to refund their money.

Car Thing originally sold for $90 and later sold for around $30.

Spotify never initially promised a refund, but the company may be feeling pressure from irate users. Billboard announced today that a class action lawsuit has been filed following Spotify’s decision to recall the product and not offer a refund.
