Guess (GES) Reports First Quarter Loss, Top Revenue Estimates

Guess (GES) came out with a quarterly loss of $0.27 per share compared to the Zacks Consensus Estimate of a loss of $0.39. For comparison, a year earlier the loss was $0.07 per share. These numbers have been adjusted for one-off items.

This quarterly report presented an earnings surprise of 30.77%. A quarter ago, it was expected that this apparel company would post earnings of $1.55 per share when it actually produced earnings of $2.01, delivering a surprise of 29.68%.

The company has topped consensus EPS estimates three times over the last four quarters.

Guess, which belongs to the Zacks Textile – Apparel industry, posted revenues of $591.94 million for the quarter ended April 2024, surpassing the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 2.59%. For comparison, revenues from the previous year amounted to USD 569.8 million. The company has topped consensus revenue estimates three times over the last four quarters.

The sustainability of the immediate share price movement based on the recently-released numbers and future earnings expectations will largely depend on management’s commentary on the earnings call.

Guess shares are up about 1.5% year to date compared with the S&P 500’s gain of 10.4%.

Lululemon’s revenue is expected to be $2.2 billion, up 9.9% from the same quarter last year.
