A man has been charged in a Homa Bay court for allegedly stealing a gadget used by the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party to conduct last month’s civic elections in the county.

Robert Ongaro has been accused of using violence to attack a UDA electoral official identified as Godwin Okello at Ongeti Primary School, Omoya village in Kagan County, Rangwe Sub-County.

Ongaro, who appeared before Homa Bay Chief Magistrate Joy Wesonga, was charged with two charges including aggravated robbery and causing a riot.

In the first charge, the court was told that on April 26, 2024, Ongaro and others robbed Okello, using violence contrary to Art. 296 section 2 of the Penal Code.

In the second case, the suspect was accused of causing disturbance in a way that could disturb the peace, contrary to Art. 95 section 1 letter b) Penal Code.

However, the suspect denied the allegations against him.

The matter will be discussed on June 11, and the hearing is scheduled for June 19, 2024.
