Del Monte uses pineapple waste to generate renewable energy

Del Monte Philippines, Inc. and Global Water Engineering have joined forces to take advantage of them Pineapple waste to produce renewable energy.

AND Sewage treatment plant was installed at the Cagayan de Oro pineapple cannery in the Philippines to remove 93 percent of contaminants from the water, according to Drink every day. The removal process produces enough renewable energy (methane-rich biogas) to power two 1.4 MW generators.

The waste-to-energy system will enable the Del Monte plant to replace fossil fuels with a steady supply of green energy.

“The DMPI plant exceeded its high environmental goals, treating more than 13,000 cubic meters of wastewater per day, or almost five million cubic meters per year,” Jean-Pierre Ombregt, CEO of Global Water Engineering, told Beverage Daily.

“When it comes to positive environmental impact and virtually free electricity returns that translate directly to the bottom line, this is an exemplary project for food, beverage and agribusiness processors around the world.”
