After asking what device he found on Airbnb, a man receives answers he doesn't want to hear

Some people thought this strange device was a bit suspicious

Finding some unfamiliar “device” when checking in to your Airbnb can make you feel uncomfortable, to say the least.

Just finding something strange in this place can keep you up all night staring at the ceiling and wondering what the hell it is and what it’s for instead of enjoying your travels.

But this man’s situation reached a whole new, more terrifying level when he received answers he didn’t want to hear after asking what the device was at his Airbnb.

User “bigbadchief” visited the Reddit “What is this” thread to find out what this strange-looking device was that was plugged into the wall while checking in for a stay.

“A round, black electronic device on the wall in my Spanish Airbnb,” they wrote. “The ball in the middle is moving a little bit.”

They then attached four images of a strange-looking black wheel with a small red LED on the side, attached to a wall and connected to electricity.

There is a small black ball in the center and the whole thing looks quite inconspicuous. And a little scarily, many users gave the same answer as someone stating that if it’s not a “motion sensor”, then it’s the “worst hidden camera in the world”.

And while some agreed: “It reminds me a lot of the old motion sensor too! I compared the photos on the Internet and they are very similar to the ones I saw.”

Many were suspicious of its purpose, writing: “Does your phone camera see infrared light that your eyes can’t? Modern Rogue has a video on finding spy devices that might come in handy here.

Another echoed: “If there is infrared light coming from this device on the wall, it could either be some sort of sensor, such as a motion sensor, or a camera with night vision (cameras use infrared light to see in the dark).”

Others said they searched through the images and discovered it was also a “camera,” with many believing the Airbnb host had installed a security camera to keep an eye on what was happening at the place.

However, it turns out that these claims were completely wrong, as the author eventually published an update.

“Solved! I asked the Airbnb host and he said it was the air conditioning temperature sensor,” they wrote.

“I’m reasonably certain it’s not a camera, so I’m inclined to believe their explanation.”
