Surface device owners in the UK can now officially have their devices repaired at Currys

Microsoft has announced a new partnership with Currys, a large British technology retailer. Now Surface owners can take their Microsoft-made PCs to one of 300 Currys stores in the UK and Ireland to get official support and repairs, regardless of where their devices were purchased. Previously, customers had to contact Microsoft directly to get technical support or book a repair.

Currys is the first authorized service provider in the UK. It can now replace units under warranty, provide Surface owners with technical support, and perform repairs if something breaks on your new Surface. According to the announcement, Currys can now replace many Surface components such as the display, thermal module, kickstand, ports, and more.

Currys Chief Operating Officer, Lindsay Haselhurst, said of the partnership:

We’re proud to be working with Microsoft on this new partnership, which will give thousands of Surface laptop users in the UK a new way to access repairs when they need them, regardless of where they bought their laptop. Users can click here or go to any of our 300 stores to access support from our award-winning team of experienced technicians.

After a series of devices with extremely poor repairability ratings, Microsoft has changed course. A few years ago, the company pledged to make repairing its Surface computers much easier and provide its customers with easy access to replacement parts. Now Microsoft is shipping new Surface devices with user-replaceable drives, easier access to the interior, a more modular design with less adhesive, and more. This approach fits with Currys’ Long Live Your Tech initiative, where the retailer recycles thousands of tonnes of unwanted technology to give it a new life and help low-income people get their hands on technology that is still useful.
