Primary sector industries grew by 6.2% in April.

New Delhi, May 31 Eight major industries, which include sectors such as coal, cement, steel and electricity, recorded a growth of 6.2% in April this year compared to the same month last year, according to data released by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Ministry on Friday.

Electricity production increased by 9.4% in April compared to the same month last year. The cumulative electricity rate for the 2023-24 financial year ending March 31 increased by 7.1%. compared to the same period of the previous year.

Steel production increased by 7.1% during the month. In 2023-2024, its cumulative index recorded a solid increase of 12.4% compared to the same period last year.

Coal production increased by 7.5% in April, while the cumulative fuel index increased by 11.8% in 2023-2024. compared to the same period of the previous year.

Natural gas production increased by 8.6% in April 2024. compared to April 2023, while the cumulative indicator for green fuel increased by 6.1%. in 2023–2024 compared to the same period of the previous year.

Oil refinery production increased by 3.9% in April, and its cumulative index in 2023–2024 increased by 3.6%. compared to the same period of the previous year.

Fertilizer production decreased by 0.8% in April, and its cumulative index increased by 3.7% in 2023–2024. compared to the same period of the previous year.

The combined cumulative growth rate of the eight key industries in 2023-2024 will be 7.6 percent (provisional) compared to the same period last year.

The cumulative growth rate of the index of eight key industries for the entire year 2023-24 is currently 7.6%. compared to the previous year.

These primary industries constitute 40.27 percent of the weight of items included in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) and are an indicator of the overall industry growth rate.
