BC dump truck drivers must now have warning devices in the cab

Under new regulations under the BC Motor Vehicle Act, as of June 1, commercial vehicles with cargo beds that can rise above 4.15 meters (13.6 feet) must have warning devices installed in the cab to alert the driver when the cargo bed is raised .

Vehicle height is determined by measuring the distance from the highest point of the fully raised cargo bed to the road surface immediately below.

The new regulation applies to all dump trucks operating in British Columbia, including outside the province, and drivers operating without a visual or audible warning device could face a $598 fine.

It’s one of an effort to prevent infrastructure failures that continue to hit B.C
