Stripe blames regulation for the move to an invite-only service in India

Payments giant Strip is moving to an invite-only model for new customers in India, creating the infrastructure needed to deal with the changing regulatory environment.

The company says it has made the “difficult decision” to make the temporary change, telling businesses in India that they must now request an invitation to use its services.

Stripe says the regulatory environment means it cannot currently promise a quick launch and easy deployment to Indian companies. The company does not provide any detailed regulations.

“We remain strongly committed to India and are working to expand the infrastructure to support more users by the second half of 2025.” – we read in the statement.
