Walmart takes delivery a step further in Massachusetts

Today, Walmart announces the expansion of its popular InHome delivery service to an additional 10 million U.S. households, including in Massachusetts. Customers in Boston, Cambridge and Newton will now have access to the ultimate in delivery convenience. InHome is designed to save customers time by delivering fresh groceries and everyday items to their door or unpacking them directly to refrigerators in the kitchen or garage.

In addition to the Boston market, Walmart is expanding the service today to also cover customers in Detroit, Minneapolis, Philadelphia and San Bernardino, bringing InHome’s total scale to more than 50 markets covering more than 45 million homes.

To make shopping easier, Walmart introduced InHome delivery in 2019. Since then, the retailer has made millions of InHome deliveries to customers’ homes. InHome associates are permanently employed, vetted and specially trained by Walmart for this service.

Here’s how InHome works:

Order: To place a home delivery order, customers shop Walmart.com or the Walmart app for items eligible for store delivery and select the home delivery window that is most convenient for them.
Deliver: A highly trained InHome associate completes the delivery to the customer’s preferred location. If it involves the interior of a home, the associate will use a one-time passcode to open the customer’s door or garage. There is a handy camera on the associates’ vests that records the entire delivery, which customers can access from their phones for up to a week after each delivery.

InHome is available as an add-on to a Walmart+ membership for $12.95 per month or $98 per year. Customers who are already Walmart+ members can now add unlimited, free, tip-free home delivery for an additional $7 per month or $40 per year. Walmart+ members have access to a suite of digital and in-store benefits, including unlimited free deliveries, gas and travel discounts, access to free pet telehealth visits through Pawp, early access to promotions and events, Paramount+ streaming and more.
