Origis Energy and TVA Launch Golden Triangle II Solar Project in Mississippi

The Golden Triangle II photovoltaic project with a capacity of 150 MWac and 50 MW batteries begins to produce electricity without carbon dioxide emissions. Johan Vanhee, director of sales and purchasing at Origis, highlights the importance of this project in strengthening Mississippi’s economic competitiveness and supporting the transition to a zero-emission economy.

“Solar energy strengthens Mississippi’s economic competitiveness, and Origis is removing barriers to a cleaner and brighter future by building clean energy infrastructure in the region.” “Golden Triangle II is the first step in supporting a statewide zero-emission economy, supporting our nation’s economic goals and energy security.”

Development of renewable energy projects

Two other Origis renewable energy projects are underway in Mississippi: Golden Triangle I, a 200 MWac project with 50 MW battery storage in Lowndes County, and Optimist, a similar project in Clay County. Together, these projects represent the largest battery portfolio under construction in the state, contributing to TVA’s leadership in clean energy generation. When completed in 2025, these projects will provide a total capacity of 550 MW and 150 MW of batteries, enough to power approximately 126,000 homes.

Strategic partnerships for the energy transition

Amy Tate, TVA’s regional director for the Southeast, says TVA, working with partners like Origis, develops zero-emission energy solutions that create jobs and investment in communities. Origis Energy, a leading U.S. provider of renewable energy solutions, develops, builds and operates these projects for TVA. The plants will provide clean energy at competitive prices through PPAs (power purchase agreements) signed between TVA and Origis.

“As a national leader in clean energy, TVA is leading the way in reducing greenhouse gas emissions across all sectors of the economy and delivering the clean energy needed to fuel our region’s growth.” “Together with partners like Origis, TVA is developing carbon-free energy solutions that create jobs and investments in the communities we serve.”

Supporting the Sustainable Development Goals

TVA projects such as Golden Triangle II support the operations of large industrial companies such as Meta in the TVA region. Meta, which worked with TVA on a solar installation with a capacity of over 1,000 MWac, is thrilled to launch its first renewable energy project in Mississippi.

Economic impact and growth opportunities

In the wake of the pandemic, TVA’s affordable, reliable and clean energy combined with unprecedented migration to the region has spurred economic growth in the Golden Triangle area. A University of Tennessee study projects a 22% population increase in the TVA region by 2050. The three Origis projects are expected to generate $106 million in short-term economic benefits from construction and employment, as well as $145 million in long-term regional economic benefits.

Cooperation and safety on construction sites

RES, which provides construction services to Origis as part of this portfolio, employs approximately 500 people across the three projects. Once the projects are completed, Origis Energy Services will manage and maintain the facilities, creating approximately nine on-site jobs throughout the life of the projects. Prevalon Energy, Mitsubishi Power Americas’ new energy storage battery brand, provides storage systems for every location.

Future perspectives

The announcement of the launch of Golden Triangle II by Origis Energy and TVA marks an important milestone in the company’s commitment to promoting clean energy solutions. This project supports Mississippi’s economic competitiveness and contributes to a cleaner and brighter future for the region. Origis and TVA continue to advance sustainable energy initiatives to meet the growing demand for clean energy.
