Reflect federal character in FRSC nominations, group appeals – Voice of Nigeria

The National Council for Civil Society of Nigeria (NCSCN) has urged the Government of Nigeria to take into account the Federal Character Principle in the appointment of the new Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

In his speech at the World Press Conference in Abuja, NCSCN Executive Secretary Raymond Edoh stressed the importance of upholding the Federal Principle of Character to promote national unity and integration.

Edoh noted that the rule was introduced in 1979 to ensure equal appointments in the government and promote inclusion, representation and balance in the country.

“The civil society community sincerely hopes that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Administration of Renewed Hope, GCFR, brought to power by God, will strive to right the wrongs of our past and mend the broken walls of our National Unity and Integration.”Edoh said.

He expressed concern that the current configuration of national security and paramilitary agencies does not reflect the Federal Character Principle, as neither agency is headed by any personnel from the Southeast zone.

The NCSCN has urged President Tinubu to consider appointing qualified personnel from the South East zone as the next Corps Marshal of the FRSC to promote national integration and sustainability.

The organization also appealed to the President to use this opportunity to demonstrate his commitment to national unity and development and to steer the nation towards a new trajectory of sustainable growth.

The NCSCN promised to follow up the press conference with the Presidency and relevant circles to ensure compliance with the Federal Character Principle in the appointment of a new Corps Marshal.
