Garda appeal after Leitrim driver goes twice the speed limit at school

Drivers in County Leitrim have been warned to slow down outside the county’s national schools, after a motorist was caught speeding at more than twice the speed limit.

The driver was arrested committing the offense outside a national school in Leitrim in recent days.

The motorist was caught driving at 116 km/h in a 50 km/h speed zone in recent days.

A Leitrim Gardaí spokesperson said: “The Sligo/Leitrim Traffic Policing Unit has appealed to drivers to slow down after carrying out speed checks outside some national schools in Leitrim.

“A driver was detected traveling at 116 km/h in a 50 km/h speed zone.

“Drivers caught exceeding the speed limit will receive fixed penalty notices.”

A conviction will result in a fine and penalty points on the driving license.
