Alphabet Inc The Justice Department said Google cannot avoid going to trial over claims it monopolized the digital advertising market by sending the government a multimillion-dollar check.

Google took the “extraordinary step” of sending a process server to the Antitrust Division’s offices to deliver a cashier’s check on May 16 without notice or transmission, the Justice Department and a group of plaintiff states said in a motion filed Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
