100% Pure uses Shopify Plus to build custom global inventory tracking tools

Launched after an accidental chemical spill, its founders rethought the way cosmetics are formulated, natural and organic cosmetics retailer 100% Pure recently migrated to Shopify Plus to pursue its international growth goals and posted the following results:

  • Year-on-year growth of 40% since replatforming
  • Significant improvement in website speed
  • Integrated digital and physical properties with Shopify POS
  • Time-saving automatic inventory management and synchronization

Challenge

Despite starting on a farm in California and growing millions of dollars in cosmetics sales around the world, 100% Pure recently encountered a costly problem that threatened to derail the company’s growth trajectory. 100% Pure moved to Netsuite, but soon experienced a significant slowdown in site speed, which hurt them financially.

“We were losing several hundred thousand dollars a month,” Kostick says.

With a digital and physical presence in multiple countries, Kostick and the 100% Pure team needed a flexible commerce platform built for speed, but flexible enough to meet the often complex needs of larger brands doing business around the world.

Solutions

With over a dozen retail locations and e-commerce stores in twelve countries, 100% Pure re-platformed to Shopify Plus to address site speed issues as well as better track inventory across its sprawling global company.

“Shopify Plus is super fast,” says Kostick. “This is our portal to customers in five countries and allows us to create custom promotional codes that are extremely effective.”

To better manage its increasingly complex operations, 100% Pure also uses Shopify’s API to create what the company calls Purity Toolbox, a collection of custom connections that allows the company to easily sync inventory, product information and digital marketing assets. Custom tooling allows every digital and physical property to be updated with a single click.

“I just press the sync button and that’s it,” says Quan Nguyen, the company’s vice president of technology. “We save a lot of time by being able to sync everything across multiple stores.”

Results

Since switching to Plus, 100% Pure no longer loses sales due to slow page loading times. Kostick says the company is once again growing at a rate of 40% year over year.

The custom sync tool built using the Shopify API not only allows 100% Pure to more efficiently manage inventory across multiple warehouses across the U.S., Canada and Europe, but has also enabled the company to seamlessly introduce new brands and expand into China.

“We believe that in five years our e-commerce business will be eight times larger than it is today,” Kostick says.
