Task force guiding policy and action for public safety in hot weather: Romina

ISLAMABAD, May 31 (APP): Prime Minister’s Coordinator on Climate Change Romina Khursheed Alam said on Friday that the Prime Minister’s Task Force on Global Warming and Heat Wave will lead policy and public safety efforts during hot weather.

In a statement, Romina Khurshid Alam said: “The task force will respond immediately to the heatwave across the country. “It would issue an early warning of heat wave and formulate an action plan for preventive measures and a timeline, and the task force would provide comprehensive information for public awareness with the support of the Ministry of Information and Information Technology,” she added.

She added that the forum would identify, assess and plan for the causes of water scarcity in the agricultural sector. It would develop medium- and long-term recommendations to address the challenges of global warming and heatwaves.

It may be added that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has modified the Task Force on Global Warming and Heat Waves, chaired by Romina Khurshid Alam.

The task force included the Secretary of Climate Change, the Secretary of Water Resources, the Secretary of Food Security, the Secretary of the Ministry of Information and the Secretary of National Health. Its members would also include the NDMA chairman, the DG Met office and the chief secretaries of all provinces, including Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
