BEIJING, June 1 (Xinhua) — China’s electronics industry posted strong performance in the first four months of this year, driven by steady production growth and recovery in domestic and global demand.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the combined profits of the industry’s largest companies rose 75.8 percent year-on-year to 144.2 billion yuan (about $20.3 billion) in the January-April period.

During the same period, the combined operating income of these companies was 4.67 trillion yuan, up 7.9 percent year-on-year.

The ministry attributed this strong expansion to strong performance on both the supply and demand sides of the sector.

From January to April, value-added industrial production of the sector’s largest enterprises increased by 13.6 percent compared to the same period a year earlier, an increase of 7.3 percentage points compared to the overall growth rate of industrial production in the country.

According to customs data, China exported 44.01 million laptops in the first four months, up 9.6% year-on-year. Mobile phone exports amounted to 241 million units, an increase of 4.6%.

The largest companies in the industry are those with annual core operating revenues of at least 20 million yuan.
