FSG has finalized another appointment to oversee Liverpool’s new role

Fenway Sports Group has appointed Hans Leitert as its global director of goalkeeping, with the new signing already starting the recruitment process for Liverpool’s head goalkeeping coach.

Leitert takes up the newly created position as part of the ongoing restructuring of FSG’s football operations overseen by chief executive of football Michael Edwards, who returned to the team earlier this year.

The 51-year-old, who spent five-and-a-half years in a similar role with Red Bull’s football group, has worked for Liverpool as a goalkeeper scouting consultant for the past six years.

Leitert’s most immediate task will be to strengthen Liverpool’s staff following the departures of first-team goalkeeping coach John Achterberg and assistant Jack Robinson, part of the departures that followed Jurgen Klopp’s departure as manager at the end of the season.

His appointment is FSG’s latest move towards a multi-club model. Julian Ward returned as technical director and Pedro Marques was appointed director of football development.

Edwards also appointed players to specific positions at Liverpool, the most notable of which was the appointment of Arne Slot as the new head coach to replace Klopp. Both the Dutchman and new Reds sporting director Richard Hughes will officially start their roles next weekend.
