Attorney General Rokita threatens to sue West Lafayette

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita sent a letter Friday to West Lafayette and two other Indiana cities and Monroe County, threatening legal action by July 1 if those governmental entities refuse to rescind any “sanctuary city” policies. which they use had in place.

In a statement, Rokita says these letters are in response to a law passed by the Indiana General Assembly earlier this year allowing the attorney general to bring lawsuits against any Indiana colleges, universities or local governments that fail to enforce current Indiana laws prohibiting “sanctuary cities.”

“The flood of illegal immigrants entering the United States is a problem that harms all of us,” Attorney General Rokita said in a statement. “The price for this lawlessness is paid by Hoosier taxpayers who must foot the increased costs of health care, education and other services that illegal immigrants rely on.
