Truck stolen after cutting the steering locking device in half

Barrie police called to home after Blue’s 2022 Ram 1500 was taken from driveway Wednesday night

Barrie police are investigating after a Letitia Heights man woke up Thursday morning to find his pickup truck had been stolen. Not only that, but the steering locking device was cut in half and thrown in the driveway.

Officers responded to the Fox Run home, near Leacock and Edgehill drives, at 6:20 a.m. on May 30.

The truck was described as a blue 2022 Ram 1500.

The vehicle was last seen around 9:30 p.m. the previous evening.

Officers searched houses in the area, but according to the police, there was no surveillance in the immediate area.

Police are reminding the public that vehicle thefts are still occurring and while attempts have been made to prevent these thefts, “opportunistic thieves” are still finding ways to commit their crimes.

“If your family has a second motor vehicle, we encourage you to use it as a safeguard against future theft,” city police said in a news release.

This means parking your vehicle as close to the potentially wanted vehicle as possible.

“Your efforts may just help keep your property in your own hands and not in the hands of those who choose to participate in the conduct of criminal activity in our community,” police say.

City police previously said vehicles targeted by thieves in the Barrie area include Ram pickup trucks, Toyota Highlanders, Lexus RX models, Ford F-150s and Ford Broncos.
