With increasing monthly sales, Boozy is now the largest online liquor store in the Philippines

In 2016, four entrepreneurs with years of experience in the service, alcohol and digital marketing industries in the Philippines saw the potential to transfer their expertise to e-commerce. Boozy, the on-demand alcohol delivery service, was born.

Boozy quickly grew beyond a small team, growing from a single delivery driver to a team of over 100 people, covering all of Metro Manila from multiple hubs and guaranteeing 90-minute delivery of a wide range of alcohol and tobacco products. With Shopify Plus, Boozy was able to:

  • Increase your sales growth month by month
  • Expand your business with additional delivery centers and become the largest online liquor store in the Philippines
  • Increase revenue over the last year

Challenge

When Boozy launched in 2017, it used an agency to build its website from scratch. While the site worked on a basic level, it quickly became clear that it was difficult to scale and could not be directly integrated with performance media.

The company was experiencing exponential growth from its humble beginnings as a single delivery driver, so it switched to Shopify’s basic plan, appreciating that it was integrated with Google Ads and Facebook, which helped Boozy grow through marketing.

By mid-2018, the 10-person team simply couldn’t keep up with delivery demand in Manila. To scale up, it was necessary to open multiple hubs providing deliveries within 90 minutes to anywhere in the metropolitan area.

To do this, Boozy needed three separate Shopify Flow segments, all of which were connected to the same storefront. She also needed to make it easier to locate on her website and be able to customize how inventory was displayed and filled for each different location.

After some time, it became clear that we needed a developer to customize the checkout process and storefront, as well as someone to help us build private apps and other third-party integrations. Shopify Plus checked all the above requirements, so the upgrade was a no-brainer for us.

Solutions

Recognizing the need for better customization of both the storefront and checkout, as well as integration with third-party APIs, Boozy decided to upgrade to Shopify Plus.

Boozy experienced no downtime in its operations during the update and said the Shopify Plus team is ready to ensure the right connections to the right resources.

“We love the ability to customize various aspects of the storefront and platform, with full API access so we can create our own set of private applications for our own inventory management and fulfillment system, as well as priority support if any issues arise,” says Josona. “I also love Shopify Plus’ vibrant community of developers and partners, which I can always reach out to if I run into any obstacles.”

It’s not just about the features themselves. It’s also the support of the community, the partner ecosystem and all of this that makes Shopify Plus such a fantastic platform to use.

Results

Because the rollout was almost instantaneous, Boozy’s growth skyrocketed immediately after the update was completed. December 2018 was the highest sales month so far as Boozy benefited from a huge increase in e-commerce traffic.

The ability to build custom apps via the API, as well as the complete Shopify Plus app ecosystem, allowed Boozy to tailor its platform and storefront to its location-based needs. It also reconfigured Shopify Plus for on-demand delivery, a key differentiator from its competitors.

“We highly recommend Shopify Plus to businesses that are ready to take the next steps to grow quickly and dominate their markets,” says Joson.

Shopify Plus enables multiple locations and on-demand delivery, making Boozy currently the largest online liquor store in the Philippines in terms of Google searches, number of warehouses/centers, and ridership.

Boozy continues to grow its sales and increased revenues in 2019-2020. It currently has multiple stores, including a wholesale store and an additional store in Cebu, the second largest city in the Philippines.

The combination of Shopify Plus’s best-in-class storefront, easy-to-use platform, customizable features, vibrant app and partner ecosystem, and priority support gives e-commerce businesses the best chance to grow and succeed – even in emerging markets like the Philippines.
