A HomeKit upgrade controller is coming with a unique floor plan feature

While you can of course interact with all your devices like lights, locks, speakers, and more using the standard Apple Home app, the Controller for HomeKit is aimed at advanced smart home users.

The app is a great way to control HomeKit devices on all your Apple devices. It provides a great way to create complex automations, backup all your smart home information, store configuration codes, advanced notifications and much more.

The app has just received a major update to version 7.0 with a unique feature. Anyone with a LiDAR-enabled device – iPhone 12 or later, third-generation 11-inch iPad Pro or later, and iPad Pro 12.9-inch or later – can use the device to create a 3D model of their home.

You can then enhance your Floor Plan with buttons to control your device, view current sensor values, execute sensor and workflows, and even navigate around the room. It gives a real visual look to your smart home. With privacy in mind, all data processing is done locally on your iPhone or iPad, and floor plan transfers to other users’ devices are encrypted using Apple iCloud.

If you don’t have the device you need to create a floor plan, there is an easy solution. With App Clip, you can borrow a compatible device to create a Floor Plan, export it, and then import it back to your device.

In addition to the Floor Plan option, the app’s main screen has been redesigned to provide instant access to Floor Plan, cameras, scenes, workflows, and more.

The new room overview ensures easy management and control of accessories.

Thanks to the favorites function, you always have quick access to your most important scenes and workflows.

An additional widget now also provides direct access to the Floor Plan from the home screen.

The HomeKit Controller is now available for free on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac.

To fully use the app’s capabilities, you need a subscription. A Pro subscription costs $5.49 per month or $29.99 per year. A free seven-day trial is available.
