Brpd releases body camera footage of officer arrests at Liberty Lagoon

BATON ROUGE —- The Baton Rouge Police Department is investigating the arrest of a woman by BRPD officers during the Summer of Hope kickoff at Liberty Lagoon on May 26, 2024.

During the mayor’s third annual “Summer of Hope” on Sunday evening, multiple fights broke out and someone pointed a gun at them. Several hundred people attended the pool party, and numerous police officers responded to the scene.

BRPD has since initiated an internal affairs investigation into its officers to determine whether any misconduct occurred on their part.

As a result of this investigation, BRPD released body camera footage from the officers involved in the incident related to the woman’s arrest.

“In the video, the officer tries to detain a person after a short fight, but is unable to do so due to the large crowd. Another officer enters the crowd in an attempt to detain the same person, but before he can handcuff him, he is met with physical force,” the BRPD press release said.

Anyone with additional video from that evening is asked to contact BRPD.
