SC reconstitutes Gender Sensitization and Internal Grievance Commission chaired by Justice Hima Kohli

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has made significant progress in re-constituting the Gender Sensitization and Internal Grievance Commission with Justice Hima Kohli as its chairman. The committee consists of a total of 12 members from various fields: including law, law school professors and others.

Senior Supreme Court judge Justice BV Nagarathna, along with several others, will also be a member of the committee. According to a notification issued by the General Administrative Division of the Supreme Court yesterday, the committee also includes several senior lawyers.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by clause 4(4) 2 of the Supreme Court of India (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Rules, 2013 relating to Gender Sensitization and Sexual Harassment of Women and all the enabling provisions in this behalf, the Chief Justice of India is pleased to reconstitute the Gender Sensitization and Internal Grievances Committee of the Court Supreme,” the General Administrative Branch of the SC stated in its decision.

Apart from Justice Kohli being the chairman and additional secretary Sukhda Pritam, member secretary, the other members of the 12-member committee are Justice Nagarathna, senior advocates Meenakshi Arora, Mahalakshmi Pavani, Menaka Guruswamy, Jaideep Gupta, Soumyajit Pani, advocate (AOR) Anindita Pujari, Madhu Chauhan from the Supreme Court Solicitors Association, Professor Shruti Pandey from OP Jindal Global University and Dr. Leni Chaudhuri, Executive Director, University of Chicago Center in India Pvt. Sp. z o. o

It is pertinent to note that the SC has re-constituted the Internal Grievance Committee after taking into account Regulation 4 of the Supreme Court’s Gender Sensitization and Sexual Harassment of Women Rules, 2013.

Regulation 4 Act provides for the establishment of a Gender Sensitization and Internal Complaints Committee to sensitize the public on gender issues and to hear all complaints filed in connection with sexual harassment in the districts of the Supreme Court.
