The unofficial app helps you easily install the controversial Windows System Restore on unsupported computers

Last month, Microsoft introduced new Copilot+ computers that are said to be up to 58% faster than Apple’s MacBook Air. While you might assume that a PC would be equipped with an AMD or Intel processor, Copilot+ computers are currently equipped with an exclusive Snapdragon processor, specifically Snapdragon X (Elite and Plus).

One interesting and controversial new feature is Recall, which takes snapshots of user activity to remember what the user is doing on their computer. This feature currently only works on Arm64 processors, although you can also emulate it on x86 processors from Intel and AMD if you want. (As a result, Microsoft is currently finalizing Windows 11 24H2 system requirements and compatible hardware.)



A new app called “Amperage” streamlines the process of running Recall on unsupported hardware. This is a console application for Windows developed by user X (former Twitter user) and Windows enthusiast Albacore.

The tool released today already has a new update that fixes the VBS-related issue. It also allows the system to take advantage of dedicated AI acceleration hardware called an NPU (Neural Processing Unit), if available on the PC.

The release notes for the latest version are as follows:

Fixes a bug that causes systems without support for virtualization-based security to unintentionally pass the virtual machine test.
Updating to the latest version is recommended as it may help Recall use the NPU built into your computer.

If you have already installed Amperage, follow these steps to upgrade:

  1. Download and unpack the latest version
  2. Start amperage /uninstall at the administrator command prompt
  3. Reboot
  4. Start amperage /install at the administrator command prompt
  5. Reboot


Albacore has also prepared a detailed step-by-step guide on how to install Recall on your computer. You must be strictly running Windows 11 24H2 Preview Build 26100.712.

  1. Go to the Releases page and download the latest version
  2. Download AI components (machine learning workloads) for Arm64 from here
  3. Unzip the version you just downloaded
  4. Unpack the contents of the Workloads archive into a file WorkloadComponents folder next to it Amperage.exe
  5. Run Command Prompt as Administrator and navigate to the directory where you extracted Amperage
  6. Enter amperage /install and press Enter

The app’s GitHub page contains, among other things, more detailed information about the requirements. It also includes a guide for emulating Arm64 on AMD and Intel computers with AMD64 processors, although this requires a few extra steps and poor performance can be expected.

However, please note that this is a third-party app that is quite new and therefore there will likely be some bugs or issues. Therefore, it is best to avoid this on your main computer. If you’re not in a rush to try it out on an AMD or Intel-based PC, you may want to wait for official support later this year.
