Ruto vows ruthless war against graft and waste in public sector » Capital News

NAIROBI, Kenya, June 1 – President William Ruto has vowed to wage a relentless war against graft and waste, reaffirming his government’s commitment to national development.

Speaking on Saturday when he presided over the country’s 61st anniversary of internal self-determination, Madaraka Day, Ruto said he would not tolerate any person who misuses resources meant for society.

Ruto further expressed his administration’s commitment to unite all Kenyans and avoid divisive policies to protect the country’s future.

“I want to assure you (Kenyans) that we will work hard to ensure that our policies focus on Kenya’s development agenda,” Ruto said while leading the ceremony at the Masinde Muliro Stadium.

“We intend to tackle the challenge of corruption, wasteful spending and unnecessary use of public funds.”

Ruto’s statements come in response to widespread concerns among Kenyans about rising cases of bribery and misuse of resources by public officials.

He maintained that his administration strives to serve all Kenyans equally without discrimination.

He further stressed the need for cooperation between all sectors to transform the country.

“I promise I won’t let you down; this administration will not let you down,” Ruto assured.

His comments coincide with the introduction of a model procedure for combating corruption and bribery by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

According to the EACC, the guidelines aim to prevent corruption and bribery in public and private entities, in line with the Anti-Corruption Act 2016 and the Anti-Corruption Regulations 2022.

“These procedures have been developed in accordance with Art. 9 section 1 of the Anti-Corruption Act, which states that public and private entities implement procedures appropriate to their size, scale and nature of activities to prevent bribery and corruption,” the EACC said on May 13.

The procedures setting the adopted standards for preventing bribery and corruption will be a practical tool for both public and private entities, in accordance with the requirements of the Anti-Corruption Act.
