The Presidency presents a comprehensive approach to health policy aimed at improving childbirth

Special Adviser to the President on Health, Dr. Salma Ibrahim Anas, presented a comprehensive approach to health policy and its implementation in line with global standards to ensure service delivery in Nigeria.

Ibrahim Anas in her presentation at the press conference on President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Health Hope Agenda reiterated the Federal Government’s mandate to shape health policy, coordinate efforts and harmonize practices to achieve a unified national health agenda.

She explained that the primary role of the federal government is to lead policy formulation, coordinate effective harmonization and build capacity.

“We mentor and create strategic directions for countries to follow to ensure compliance with global standards. The federal government’s proactive stance is reflected in its efforts to fill existing gaps in the healthcare sector.

“One notable initiative is the Primary Health Care Facility Fund (BHCF), a key component to catalyze health projects at the state level.

“While we are not implementing it directly, the federal government is mobilizing resources, including 1% of the Consolidated Revenue Fund, to serve as a catalyst for state initiatives.

“Our role is to support and empower countries to deliver on their healthcare promises. Without the active participation of countries, we have nothing to show on this journey.

“This strategic approach highlights a collaborative framework between federal and state governments that is critical to the success of nationwide health initiatives.

“Last year, President Bola Tinubu and all state governors signed an agreement committing to prioritize health and ensure seamless integration of health policies at all levels of government.

“This agreement ensures that we are all aligned on our priorities, working towards the common goal of improving health outcomes for every Nigerian.”

She added that one of the significant achievements of this cooperation is a noticeable increase in funds allocated to health care, including the mobilization of BHCF.

“These resources are not just financial; include technical support, capacity building and strategic guidance to strengthen national health systems.

“The federal government is prioritizing health by dedicating resources to fill critical gaps. These funds serve as a catalyst for states to improve their health care delivery systems.

“The effects of these efforts are already being seen in various states where health outcomes have improved thanks to better resource allocation and strategic guidance from the federal government.

“With this coordinated approach, we are starting to see improvements in health indicators across all states. It demonstrates the power of strategic alignment and resource mobilization.

“The journey is not over yet. Dr. Anas stressed the importance of continued cooperation and the need for countries to take active responsibility for health initiatives.

“Our work is ongoing and requires continuous effort from all stakeholders. Countries must fulfill their health responsibilities so that we can achieve our common goal.

“The Federal Government’s Strategic Health Vision, led by Dr. Salma Ibrahim Anas, represents a paradigm shift in the way health policy is formulated and implemented in Nigeria.

“By fostering a collaborative environment and mobilizing key resources, the federal government is laying the foundations for a robust health care system aligned with global standards.

“This vision is not just about politics; it is about delivering tangible health improvements that will benefit every Nigerian, ensuring a healthier and more resilient nation.

“We are committed to improving the health and well-being of every Nigerian. Our partnership with state governments is critical, and we will continue to work together to create a thriving health care system for all,” Anas said.
