Micah Parsons almost back, Chase Young on radar, RB options

Dallas is getting a much-needed sendoff after falling 47-9 at home to Detroit in Week 7. The Cowboys need a win to stay above .500, and they could get one of their best players back on the field at just the right time. Even so, Dallas still needs help on the defensive line and offensive backfield. There are rumors floating around about what they might do with the trade deadline approaching, but they need all the help they can get at this point.

Micah Parsons sprained his ankle in Dallas’ Week 4 win over the New York Giants. It’s been up in the air every week as to whether he’ll be able to play, but now it looks like we’re finally getting closer to seeing Parsons on the field again. The Cowboys will play San Francisco this week and Parson is out of the question.

If not this week, maybe the Week 9 game in Atlanta, we see Parsons going after Kirk Cousins. The Cowboys’ defense wasn’t very good this season, although they were playing better until their blow against the Detroit Lions.

Things won’t be easy against the Niners this week, but having Parsons back could potentially boost team morale. Additionally, the 49ers are struggling at 3-4 with most of Brock Purdy’s weapons out of the lineup. The 49ers have owned the Cowboys for the last few years no matter where they play, so now is the time to take advantage of the injured Niners roster.

The bottom line is the Cowboys need help catching the quarterback, and they need it soon. Micah Parsons was out for a few weeks with an ankle injury but will be back on the field soon. His status for Sunday’s game against the 49ers is still uncertain, but there is optimism around the team. With Demarcus Lawrence still on injured reserve with a foot injury, Dallas is very poor at passing.

To enter Chase YoungThe former Washington Commanders phenom had a hot start to his career in 2020, making the Pro Bowl as a rookie and winning the Defensive Rookie of the Year award. Since then, Young has been plagued by injury issues, appearing in double-digit games just once since his rookie year.

Currently with the New Orleans Saints, Young could be acquired fairly cheaply considering his recent production. He hasn’t started any games this season with just 1.5 sacks, but he’s young enough to turn his career around given the right situation. It will soon become clear whether the Cowboys will pursue Young, but at this point the Cowboys need strong bodies on the defensive line.

A recurring theme or complaint this season revolved around the Cowboys’ running game. Rico Dowdle has improved, but Dallas needs more power in the backfield. Former Minnesota Vikings Pro Bowl is back, Dalvin CookHe is in the squad and training squad. Strangely, the Cowboys didn’t call him up considering they have the worst offense in the league.

Keeping Cook on the practice squad for this long either points to incompetence on Mike McCarthy’s coaching staff, or they’re telling us that Cook no longer has it or is dealing with injuries. Either way, breeding him can’t be much worse than what he’s produced this season.

There is also talk that another forward might be available and that is Travis Etienne from the Jacksonville Jaguars. This talk stems from the fact that backup Tank Bigsby is playing very well and Jacksonville is going nowhere fast. This is one of those situations where half the season is over and it’s time to unload and start over. That’s where the Etienne talk really comes from, but it’s not a bad idea if Jones thinks he’s better than all the options on the active roster right now.
