Geocaching class held in Morgantown sparks interest in outdoor recreation

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — Geocaching enthusiasts held a class on the hobby called Geocaching 101 in Mylan Park on Saturday, hoping to introduce it to people who want to get out and explore.

Geocaching is an outdoor adventure game in which players use an app to find hidden treasures around the world. Today’s class was hosted by GeoWoodstock XXI, a geocaching conference that brings together enthusiasts from across North America. After a slideshow, the class went outside to look for geocaches.

Mark Webb, who taught the course and has been geocaching since he was a teenager, told 12 News about the appeal of the hobby.

“Not only does it take you to some really cool places – you see some really exciting things that you wouldn’t have found otherwise – but the community is just awesome.”

If you are interested in geocaching, GeoWoodstock XXI will take place again on May 24, 2025. You can also learn more on the geocaching website.
