A husband-and-wife team takes over the manufacturer as the owners retire

Stourbridge couple Cameron and Elizabeth Wakeman acquired Midland Wire Mesh thanks to a joint £175,000 financing package provided by BCRS Business Loans and UKSE.

Midland Wire Mesh, an industrial wire mesh manufacturer established in 1975 and located on Lodgefield Road in Halesowen, serves a variety of sectors such as construction, horticulture, drainage and the pet industry.

The Wakemans decided to take over the business from the original owners, David and Debbie Walters, who wanted to retire.

Thanks to this acquisition, Midland Wire Mesh plans to create three new positions, expand its own services to include welding and invest in new machines.

Cameron Wakeman brings over 14 years of sales, marketing and management experience in the metals industry, having worked at companies such as Midtherm, Servosteel and Intec Laser Services.

Elizabeth Wakeman, a phlebotomist at the Guest Hospital NHS in Dudley, will manage the company’s finances and business marketing.

Cameron Wakeman said: “Elizabeth and I have always wanted to run our own business and when the opportunity arose we were keen to pursue it. I have always worked in the metal industry in various positions, from the production floor to service
machines to sales and management positions, so I’m looking forward to applying my skills and knowledge at Midland Wire Mesh Ltd.

“We intend to grow the business over the next 12 months and focus on diversifying into new markets, including shelving, pet care, security and architecture.”

Lynn Wyke, senior business development manager at BCRS Business Loans, said: “We are delighted to be able to provide Cameron and Elizabeth with the funding they need to secure the purchase of Midland Wire Mesh Ltd. As a lender providing social and economic impact finance, it is great news that the financing will generate new jobs and enable the company to innovate.”
