The Judiciary announced today (June 4) the appointment of Mr Kwong Ka-tung as a District Judge. The appointment will take place on June 5, 2024.

The appointment is made by the Director General based on the recommendation of the Recommendation Committee for Court Officials.

Mr. Kwong was born in Hong Kong in 1981. He received his bachelor’s degree in social sciences from the University of Hong Kong in 2004. He then obtained his LL.B. and PCLL. both received degrees from the University of Hong Kong in 2005 and 2006, respectively, and LL.M. He graduated from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom in 2007. He was called to the bar in Hong Kong in 2008 and has been in private practice since the same year. He was appointed interim deputy clerk of the Supreme Court and associate district judge for 2021, 2023 and 2024.

Secretary of the Civil Service: The Executive Council, in accordance with the mechanism governing the adjustment of salaries in the civil service, took into account six factors, namely the state of the Hong Kong economy, changes in the cost of living, net salary trend indicators, the fiscal situation of the government, the salary demands of staff, as well as the morale civil servants.
