Iran and Tajikistan commit to strengthening cooperation in the water and soil sectors

(MENAFN) Officials from Iran and Tajikistan stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of water and soil management. Safdar Niyazi Shahraki, Iran’s deputy agriculture minister for water and soil, led the delegation in discussions with members of Tajikistan’s Water and Soil Authority to explore opportunities for cooperation in these key areas, Mehr news agency reported.

During the meeting, Iranian officials highlighted the significant potential and capabilities of Iranian companies in producing irrigation parts and equipment, as well as offering technical and engineering services. They emphasized the possibility of a mutually beneficial partnership between the two nations to address common challenges related to water and soil management.

In early May, a delegation of businessmen and manufacturers from Tajikistan visited the Iranian House of Innovation and Technology (iHiT), where they expressed their admiration for Iranian knowledge-based products. The Tajik delegation present at the Iran Expo 2024 exhibition in Tehran praised the quality of Iranian products, noting their compliance with the agricultural conditions of Tajikistan.

With over 70 percent of Tajikistan’s labor force working in agriculture, the delegation emphasized the need to modernize and improve agricultural practices. They emphasized that worn-out tools and lack of modern equipment hinder agricultural productivity in Tajikistan, creating an opportunity for cooperation with Iran in the supply of agricultural tools and machinery.

The Tajik delegation recognized Tajikistan as a promising market for Iranian agricultural products and machinery, emphasizing its intention to deepen cooperation with Iran to leverage Iran’s achievements and bring Iranian-made industrial products and capabilities to Tajikistan.

The discussions between Iranian and Tajikistan officials signify a shared commitment to strengthen bilateral ties and build on each other’s strengths to address common challenges and enhance mutual prosperity.
