‘Whack-a-mole’ for big tech won’t be enough, says European antitrust chief

ANDDIGITIZATION MA As we progress, we have seen an increasing concentration of power in the hands of a small number of companies, much like the period when the first antitrust laws were introduced in the late 19th century. Digital markets are particularly susceptible to concentration.

We saw a lot. One example is digital giants who promote their own services on platforms they control, while making it difficult for consumers to find competing services. Years of experience in antitrust enforcement have shown us that this stifles innovation and the development of new business models, to the detriment of citizens and society as a whole.
