EU approves Italian subsidies for offshore wind energy and innovative renewable energy sources

MILAN (Reuters) – The European Commission has approved an Italian state aid program for almost 4.6 gigawatts (GW) of new renewable electricity generation capacity, including offshore wind projects, Brussels said on Tuesday.

The program, which will last until the end of 2028, will support the construction of new power plants using innovative technologies, including geothermal energy, floating solar energy, tidal, wave and other marine energy, as well as biogas and biomass, the European Commission said.

The aid will be financed by a fee that will be included in electricity bills and paid by consumers.
