New York Jets linebacker Haason Reddick has hired Drew Rosenhaus and Ryan Matha as new agents midway through his contract with the team, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Rosenhaus told Schefter that Reddick “would like to be a New York Jet for years to come and our goal is to make that happen.”

Schefter also reported that Rosenhaus and Matha contacted the team directly to open a dialogue.

Although an agent is supposed to work on behalf of his client, the challenge ahead for Rosenhaus and Matha could be convincing Reddick to accept the Jets’ best offer.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that the two-time Pro Bowler is seeking a multi-year extension on par with the highest-paid pass-rushers in the league. However, “there is no market for such an agreement.”

Rapoport also reported that New York and Reddick’s previous agents negotiated a one-year contract that “would have given him the opportunity to offset fines and earn more money than he was originally anticipated.”

It’s been a costly summer for “#Jets“LB Haason Reddick.
Fines/forfeitures ($5.07 million)
Minicamp: $101,716
Training camp: $2,050,000
Preseason: $2,375,000
Workout bonus: $250,000
Discretionary fine: $300,000
He will lose an additional $791,666 per regular season week…

But if Reddick is determined to secure long-term security beyond the current season, Rosenhaus and Matha could face an uphill battle. Absent a deal, the Jets have thus far been unwilling to accommodate this request, and the protracted nature of this saga likely leaves them even less inclined to do so.

New York also has more clout right now.

Rapoport noted that Reddick must report to the team by Week 13 or this year will not count toward his NFL service time. As a result, he would not hit free agency this offseason and would remain on the Jets’ books through 2025.

There’s not much downside for the Jets to simply wait and welcome Reddick back or watch him miss an entire season and lose out on millions in potential winnings.

Reaching a resolution where everyone wins isn’t impossible for Rosenhaus and Matha, but it won’t be easy.
