A fake explosive device forces the evacuation of a Coachella Valley high school

The discovery of what appeared to be an explosive device prompted the evacuation of a Coachella Valley high school on Friday, but the device turned out to be fake.

According to CVHS, a “handmade explosive object” was found Friday morning behind an industrial building on Airport Boulevard.

CVHS administration notified the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. Students and staff were transported to two schools, with freshmen, life skills students and medically challenged students going to Cahuilla Desert Academy, and sophomores, juniors and seniors going to Desert Mirage High School.
