The company is close to a multi-million settlement

What’s the story

Microsoft is reportedly close to reaching an agreement with the Amazon-backed cloud lobby, Cloud Infrastructure Services Providers in Europe (CISPE), to withdraw its antitrust complaint filed with the European Commission.

This information was revealed by, among others, Policyciting industry insiders familiar with the proposal.

The deal, which is still awaiting approval by CISPE members, could end the investigation into Microsoft’s cloud licensing agreements.

Details of the proposed solution

The proposed agreement could include a possible multi-million-dollar payment to CISPE and possibly separate payments to individual companies.

CISPE, which owns Amazon and 26 smaller EU cloud providers, initially filed the complaint in late 2022.

The group alleged that Microsoft’s new contract terms, introduced on October 1, adversely affect the European cloud computing ecosystem.

End of global legal complaints against Microsoft

As part of the proposed settlement, CISPE and its member companies agree not to file any legal claims against Microsoft worldwide.

He was the first to report the development of the situation Reuters in February, stating that Microsoft was in talks with CISPE to settle a European Union antitrust complaint about the software giant’s cloud licensing practices.

As of now, neither Microsoft, Amazon, CISPE nor the European Commission have responded to requests for comment outside regular business hours, he said. Reuters.
