JUST IN: Tinubu fires Police Commission chairman and others

President Bola Tinubu has removed the Chairman of the Police Services Commission (PSC), IGP Solomon Arase (retd) and replaced him with DIG Hashimu Argungu (retd) to prevent a vacuum in the leadership of the commission.

In addition to Arase, the president also dismissed other members of the commission’s board. He replaced them by appointing Chief Onyemuche Nnamani as Secretary and DIG Taiwo Lakanu (Rtd) as Member of the Commission.

The appointments of these individuals, which were made public on Monday in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, indicated that the renewal of the appointments would be subject to Senate confirmation.

Tinubu also appointed Mohammed Sheidu as the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) to assist police officers in managing their funds.

According to the statement, “President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of DIG Hashimu Argungu (Rtd) as the Chairman of the Police Services Commission (PSC).

“The President also approved the appointment of Chief Onyemuche Nnamani as Secretary and DIG Taiwo Lakanu (Rtd) as Member of the Commission.

“Nominations are subject to Senate confirmation. The remaining members of the Police Service Commission will be appointed in due course.

“Furthermore, the President has approved the appointment of Mohammed Sheidu as the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) with immediate effect.
