Farmers are opposing land acquisition for NH 63 in Mancherial

Mancherial: Farmers of Hajipur and Luxettipet mandals staged a dharna on Monday expressing disinterest in handing over land for the proposed National Highway 63 connecting Mancherial-Nizamabad, at IB Chowk, here.

Farmers led by BJP leader Tuli Madhusudan staged a sit-in at Dr BR Ambedkar’s statue and raised slogans against officials of the National Highways Authority of India.

They said authorities changed the equalization three times to benefit real estate brokers and some politicians.

They appealed to Peddapalli MP-elect Gaddam Vamshi and Mancherial MLA K. Premsagar Rao to ensure justice for them. Madhusudan said the new adjustment would entail a financial burden of Rs 3,000 crore on the government.

He blamed the NHAI officials for proposing to create green areas across the banks of the Godavari and influencing the farmlands of farmers in both mandals.

Expressing regret that the lives of farmers who have already donated land for the Yellampalli project will be thrown out of balance if their farms are retaken for this stretch, he urged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to intervene and stop acquisition of agricultural lands.

Farmers Lagishetti Rajamouli, Bolishetti Thirupati, Gurrala Shashidhar Reddy, Pettem Thirupati, Thota Laxman, Challa Venkatesh, Manchikatla Mallesh, Nagireddy Janardhan Reddy, Nainala Thirupathi and many others were present.
