However, this requires powerful on-device processing that many older Apple gadgets simply cannot handle.

Apple Intelligence was unveiled on Monday at the WWDC 2024 event, along with general software updates such as iOS 18 for iPhone, iPadOS 18 for iPad and macOS Sequoia for Mac.

The artificial intelligence update significantly improves the naturalness and efficiency of using Siri, a built-in option to request information from ChatGPT, and interesting additional features such as generating custom emojis or searching for specific moments in recorded videos.

WHY DON’T EVERYONE DO THIS?

The problem is that Apple Intelligence is very powerful – and extremely demanding.

Some of your requests will be handled securely by Apple servers via the Private Cloud Compute system.

However, much of what goes into processing the features you use will take place on your device, which puts a lot of stress on the chips.

This means that not all Apple devices will receive the Apple Intelligence update.

“Core models they require huge computing power,” Apple’s John Giannandrea said during a discussion attended by The Sun.

“The limitation is the amount of computation required.”

APPLE INTELLIGENCE UPDATES – DEVICES WILL RECEIVE THIS

The update will arrive in beta this fall as part of iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia.

There is no information on the exact release of iOS 18, but The Sun’s official forecast is Monday, September 16.

Here are the devices that will support Apple Intelligence:

iPhone 15 Pro
iPhone 15 Pro Max
iPad (with M1 chip or later)
Mac (with M1 chip or later)

Here’s what Apple CEO Tim Cook had to say about Apple Intelligence…

“Our unique approach combines generative AI with the user’s personal context to deliver truly actionable insights.

“And can access that information in a completely private and secure way to help users do the things that matter most to them.

“This is artificial intelligence that only Apple can deliver, and we can’t wait for users to see what it can do.”

You’ll also need to make sure Siri and device languages are set to English (US).

It’s also safe to assume that at least some Apple products Next round of iPhone models will support Apple Intelligence.

However, it is unclear whether it will be limited to iPhone 16 Pro models (if it is planned at all) or whether regular iPhone 16 devices will also get it.

We will learn about subsequent iPhone models only during the traditional September Apple event.

The Sun previously predicted this would happen on Tuesday, September 10, with the iPhone launch date being Friday, September 20.

However, Apple hasn’t confirmed any of this information – so don’t mark your calendars just yet.
