The European Sustainable Energy Awards 2024 reward clean energy champions

The winners were selected by public online voting in three categories: Innovation, Local Energy ActionAND Woman in Energy. The awards were received from European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson and members jury at a high level at the European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) awards ceremony held on June 11 in Brussels.

Portuguese architect RitaGomes won a prize in the competition Woman in Energy category for her startup Seenergy, which is a pioneer in the use of renewable energy solutions integrated with household facilities. The company uses colorful solar cells that mimic the photosynthesis process in plants, converting light into electricity without direct sunlight. The energy collected is stored in a battery built into the furniture and can be used to charge devices or power lighting via USB ports.

The Association des Centrales Villageoisesa network of French local cooperatives bringing together citizens, municipalities and local enterprises to develop renewable energy and energy efficiency projects, took first place in the ranking Local Energy Action Category. Network operated by The European Union LIFE programbrings together citizens, municipalities and local businesses to develop projects at a local scale, offering technical, economic and legal assistance to community-led energy initiatives.

PHOTO AMAa project financed under the EU Horizon 2020 program, aimed at improving the recycling of photovoltaic panels, was the winner of the competition Innovation Category. The project brings together partners from across Europe to improve photovoltaic (PV) panel recycling and raw material recovery, developing a closed-loop model that can bridge the gap between the manufacturing and recycling industries.

TheEuropean Sustainable Energy Awards​ (EUSEW Awards) reward outstanding individuals and projects for their innovation and efforts in energy efficiency and renewable energy sources. The three winners were selected by public online voting from among nine finalists selected by a jury at a high level in three categories – Innovation, Local Energy Action, AND Woman in Energy. ​

The European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW), the largest annual event dedicated to renewable energy sources and energy efficiency in Europetakes place on June 11-13 under the slogan“Zeronet solutions for a competitive Europe”. The event brings together public authorities, private companies, non-governmental organizations and consumers to promote initiatives that accelerate decarbonization through green technologies and solutions for a just and equitable transition for people and competitive enterprises.
