HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah, June 11, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Organizers of the Hill Air Force Base air show, Warriors over the Wasatch Open House and Air Show, are releasing information on the best ways to get there.

The June 29 and 30 event is expected to attract thousands of visitors to the area with limited parking.

1. Lt. Lt. Alissa Buynak, chairwoman of the Air Show Logistics and Parking Committee, said the best way to avoid these delays is to take a UTA FrontRunner bus to the Clearfield Station, where there will be free shuttle buses taking people to the show with uninterrupted, priority service route and returned continuously on both days.

“While we have allocated our space to the best of our ability, there is a finite amount of parking available on base while we can consistently shuttle participants from FrontRunner,” Buynak said in a prepared press release.

UTA provides a special $5 Air Show Day Pass that includes unlimited rides on all UTA services except Paratransit. This ticket is only available on the Transit app. Additionally, $15 group single-day passes (valid for up to four people) can be purchased in the Transit app, at ticket machines (TVM) or by calling customer service at 801-RIDE-UTA (743-3882).

Off-base parking will be available with a limited number of spaces:

  • Clearfield Station, located at 1250 S. State St. A transfer service is offered.
  • Weber State University Center for Continuing Education, at 775 S. University Park Blvd. Transfer offered.
  • Northridge High School located at 2430 N. Hill Field Road “It will be NO TRANSPORTATION from Northridge High School” – we read in the press release. “However, participants can walk around the base using Hill’s south gate.
  • The last parking option is the base. Attendees can enter through Hill’s North Gate and West Gate from 7:30 a.m. and will be asked to park in lots that are close enough to walk to the show entrance. Otherwise, transfer will be provided. No persons will be permitted to pass through the South Gate, except for pedestrian traffic.

Buynak said a color-coded system will be put in place to help people know which bus will take them back to their parking space.

“Flags will be displayed at each park-and-ride lot at the bus pick-up points, and flags of the same color will be displayed at bus drop-off and pick-up points,” she said. “Participants line up in the area with the appropriate flag color to return them to the parking lot where they parked. Buses will also be marked with this color when operating in this parking lot.”

Anyone riding a motorcycle on base is required to wear the required personal protective equipment, including a helmet.

Parking for disabled people

A limited number of parking spaces for disabled people will be available at the base. Vehicles with disability and license plates should enter the left lane at West Gate. They are asked to turn on their hazard warning lights and stay in the left lane, signaling the road crew to issue instructions and direct them to the appropriate parking lot. Additionally, UTA will be making accessible services available at the Clearfield Station to assist participants who need assistance.

Finally, parking along SR-193 is strictly prohibited as it affects traffic flow and poses a safety hazard. Layton Police can issue tickets to people parking along the highway.

“We have done everything we can to improve upon the process from years ago by separating pedestrian traffic, attendee vehicle traffic and bus traffic so that this can be an enjoyable air show for our attendees,” Buynak said.
