#NDGF Bait Regulations 2024 | The mighty 790 KFGO

Live white suckers are not legal bait in North Dakota, except in the Bois de Sioux and Red Rivers.

Anglers can fish for live white suckers on the Bois de Sioux and Red rivers and their tributaries up to the first circular bridge; however, they are illegal elsewhere. Bighead minnows, sticklebacks and brook chubs are the only legal live bait fish outside the Bois de Sioux and Red rivers.

It is illegal to transport live white suckers outside of Richland, Cass, Traill, Grand Forks, Walsh and Pembina counties.

Additionally, anglers cannot import minnows and other forms of live aquatic bait such as leeches and frogs into North Dakota.

When purchasing live aquatic bait, anglers must purchase it from a licensed bait retailer in North Dakota. Bait dealers can correctly identify species and ensure all bait is free from any nuisance aquatic species.

More information can be found in the 2024-2026 North Dakota Fishing Guide, available from license dealers or online at the state Department of Game and Fish website at gf.nd.gov.
