THE CHOSEN app climbs to the top of the App Store with the premiere of season 4

By Movieguide® Contributor

The excitement for season 4 of THE CHOSEN was undeniable earlier this week when the show’s app jumped to number one in the Apple TV App Store and number two in the free apps chart in the App Store.

The amazing display took place after the first episode of Season 4 became available for streaming. THE CHOSEN later revealed that in the first three days of the episode’s premiere, it had been watched 3.5 million times, reaching approximately 4.2 million viewers in the U.S., a nearly 100% increase in reach compared to the season three premiere.

“The numbers are great, but what really appeals to us is the comments and emotional reactions from viewers,” said Dallas Jenkins, the show’s creator. “The crying emojis in the chat and the expressions of how much the ending affected them was overwhelming.”

This emotional reaction was also felt during the season’s theatrical premiere, with many fans warning others to prepare for many ups and downs.

“(We) are not afraid of the sweetness and the pain and the suffering this season,” Jenkins told Movieguide® in January. “I think if we ignore it, or gloss over it, or suggest that Jesus sorts it all out, I think we’re not being honest… But throughout this season, you can also see Jesus saying, ‘Stay with me… if you stay with me,’ if you stay on top of me look, there will be an end to this story, it will be joyful and there will be peace, and everything that I promise will be there, but it is not now.’”

The first episode of the season was broadcast on June 2, and the second on June 6. The remainder of the season will air on Sundays at 7 p.m. ET and Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. ET for the next four weeks. Episodes will first be broadcast live on THE CHOSEN app and social media, and will then be available for streaming on multiple sites.

Meanwhile, filming is underway for the show’s fifth season, which follows the events of Holy Week.

The cast and crew of THE CHOSEN are excited to get back into the swing of things as filming begins on season five.

“(Things) went exceptionally well,” Jonathan told Roumie. “I came in feeling like I didn’t know how it was going to turn out, and thank God it went really well. The second day (of filming) was even easier than the first, much lighter. We had some time to joke around a bit.”

Even though more than half a year had passed since the end of filming for the fourth season, they felt that they could quickly return to their characters and establish close relationships.

“I blinked my eyes and now I’m starting the fifth season. Was there a break? I don’t know. The weather is nice – it’s the first such weather for THE SELECTED,” said Elizabeth Tabish.

“I am proud of how we have truly settled into our intimacy and sense of family,” added Abe Bueno-Jallad. “A lot of things are changing so quickly that I’m allowing myself to be affected by them because it feels like a completely different season.”
