Cannabis Act 2030: Potential impact of federal regulations on cannabis legalization in New York

As readers of this column know, I have written extensively about the difficulties New York City has experienced in implementing its adult-use cannabis program. This process is still ongoing, and the Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) faced a lot of criticism from the governor this year, ultimately leading to the departure of its inaugural director, Chris Alexander.

While New York appears to be currently reassessing its approach to implementation while balancing the interests of multiple (sometimes competing) stakeholders in the ecosystem, it is also important to take a step back and look at movements at the national level, how this may impact New York York in the coming years.
