16TB Portable SSDs Coming – Key Component Supplier Launches World’s First Native USB4 Controller – With 4GB/s Read/Write Performance, Could Even Outperform System SSD

NAND controller and storage solutions company Phison used its premiere appearance at Computex to showcase several new products, including the PS2251-21 (U21), the world’s first single-chip native USB4 controller.

The company claims that this chip offers read and write speeds of up to 4000 MB/s and is the first available solution enabling direct USB-NAND to USB4 Gen3x2 connection.

The U21 currently supports capacities up to 8TB, but 16TB is possible, and is backwards compatible with all existing USB standards, including USB 2.0 and USB 3.2 in various generation and line options.

LLM training and application

The company also used its presence at Computex to showcase its high-performance E31T SSD non-DRAM storage solution, which can reach speeds of up to 10 GB/s, as well as its new Pascari series of SSDs for servers and enterprise applications. Pascari’s offering includes the high-performance X series, the B range of boot drives, D data center products, the SATA S range and the AI series for tuning AI models.

Other “world first” products presented were the company’s PCIe 5.0/CXL 2.0 Retimer PS7201, a full range of PCIe 5.0 reducer IC solutions, and the next generation PCIe 6.0 Retimer IC PS7162.

With artificial intelligence being the main topic at Computex this year, it should come as no surprise that Phison also showcased the aiDAPTIV+ LLM training and reasoning platform that it developed in collaboration with ADVANTECH, Acer Synergy Tech and ASROCK RACK.
