Medical device manufacturer Stryker acquires Artelon

KALAMAZOO–Stryker Corp. announced an agreement to acquire all shares of Artelon Inc., a privately held manufacturer of foot and ankle soft tissue fixation products and sports medicine treatments based in Marietta, Georgia.

Stryker representatives stated that the company will strengthen its offerings in the soft tissue fixation segment and emphasized Stryker’s commitment to providing differentiated ligament and tendon reconstruction solutions.

Artelon’s technologies complement and expand the current portfolio of products available to Stryker’s foot, ankle and sports medicine customers. The diverse synthetic technology aims to improve the biological and mechanical reconstruction of ligaments and tendons in over 60,000 implants worldwide. The acquisition will also enable Stryker to gain a more competitive position in the foot and ankle and sports medicine segments with innovative biomaterial technology that promotes patient soft tissue healing.

“Artelon’s proven product portfolio and diverse offerings will enhance our ability to innovate and serve our customers,” said Tim Lanier, president of Stryker’s Trauma & Extremities division. “Adding Artelon products to our already extensive portfolio of foot, ankle and sports medicine products will further our goal of creating a comprehensive offering for customers in these segments. We are united by a shared commitment to integrity, quality and advancing the knowledge of healthcare providers to achieve the best clinical outcomes and rebuild patients’ lives.”

This transaction is subject to customary closing conditions. Stryker and Artelon will continue to operate as separate entities and conduct business as usual until the transaction is completed.

Stryker offers MedSurg, Neurotechnology, Orthopedics and Spine products and services that help improve patient outcomes and healthcare. In addition to its global customers, Stryker impacts more than 150 million patients annually.
