Amman, August 11 (Petra) — The Water Conservation Project, funded by USAID’s Water Efficiency and Conservation Project (WEC) and Impact MENA, officially launched Jordan’s first water innovation accelerator, the Water Innovation Project (H2GO). The initiative aims to drive significant advances in water conservation technologies in Jordan.
Khaled Nassar, Business Development Services Specialist at the Water Conservation Project, said the accelerator is a groundbreaking initiative aimed at transforming the water conservation sector in Jordan.
According to Nassar, the project will help startups develop and bring to market water-saving technologies, increase the investment and financial readiness of participating companies, and create new jobs, especially for young people and women.
The accelerator will focus on fostering innovation and entrepreneurship, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and helping startups develop cutting-edge water-saving technologies and practices. The program aims to address key water scarcity issues in Jordan by empowering entrepreneurs and facilitating the development of sustainable solutions across multiple sectors.
In addition to providing mentoring and training, the accelerator will offer networking opportunities for local producers. It will help SMEs and Jordanian startups develop their innovations and increase sales, while preparing local producers for investment readiness.
Frank O’Brien, Project Director of the Water Conservation Project, highlighted the launch of the Water Innovation Accelerator as a significant milestone in improving water efficiency in Jordan. He expressed optimism about the program’s potential to generate innovative solutions to pressing water challenges and underlined the commitment to addressing these issues through a collaborative and creative approach.
Farhan Al-Kalaldeh, CEO and Co-Founder of Impact MENA, noted that this initiative is a unique opportunity to promote sustainable water management efforts in Jordan. He emphasized the importance of providing the necessary support and expertise to enable SMEs and startups to successfully develop and implement innovative solutions. Al-Kalaldeh expressed his expectation for the impact these innovations will have on water conservation for both current and future generations.
The program will be implemented in three phases. The initial phase will include a comprehensive needs assessment of selected SMEs and startups to allocate support and build capacity. This will be followed by a technical assistance phase offering tailored advice, training and guidance based on the assessment. The program will conclude with networking and promotional events that will provide participants with the opportunity to showcase their innovations to potential investors and partners.
The inaugural event included a panel discussion on water innovation, addressing the challenges and opportunities faced by SMEs and start-ups in Jordan.
